Did you hear that, just now? That was the sound of millions of old school gamers cheering with silent delight from their very souls as a release date for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was finally announced! This new and improved version will be hitting PC and Mac on September 18th for the low cost of $20, and the iPad version is to follow soon after that for only $10.

"New and improved. you say?" That I do. This isn't just a rehash of the original Forgotten Realms adventure with a new coat of pixels. In addition to the classic adventure that sucked up vast amounts of our collective youth, there is an additional Arena-style dungeon set in the Underdark, and three new playable companions to adventure with and get to know (though two of them have been confirmed as DLC for the iPad version). 

As a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate games, this announcement delights me to no conceivable end. In less than two months, I'll once again be leveling my way across the Forgotten Realms in old school RPG style, and repeatedly gathering my party before adventuring forth at each zone point. Its enough to make a sentimental man cry. Cry havoc, that is, and release the hamsters of war! Who is with me?
