Few genres are as under appreciated in modern MMOs as that of Steampunk. Fortunately, Mechanist Games has heard your heart yearning for anachronistic adventure, and created for you City of Steam. Set in a world that is in itself an ancient interlocking machine, you can answer the call to adventure in the guise of multiple player races and four distinct player classes - the elemental Arcanist, the crafty Gunner, the righteous Warder or the holy Channeler.
Eager to step into this steam powered world? Well you can't yet - but Closed Beta is fast approaching, and we have the shiny brass Beta Keys that will let you in! Explore after the jump for the Closed Beta schedule, trailer video and to grab a key of your very own!
Testing will take place between November 16th and December 28th, divided into 4 seasons:
Springtide (Nov. 16th to 20th)
Summercrest (Nov. 30th to Dec. 4th)
Autumnwane (Dec. 14th to 18th)
Winter Festival (Dec. 23 to 28th)
In order to claim a Closed Beta Key, you first have to be a registered GameGeex user - but you already are, right? If not, its simple and free, just click the Register link and get that done with. Afterwards, you will have the option to claim a Beta Key at the bottom of this post.
Once you have your very own Beta Key, head over the the official City of Steam website here. Register an account (or sign in if you already have one), copy/paste your Beta Key, click the register/sign-in button, then click on the ‘Play Now’ button and test out City of Steam’s Closed Beta release (or if the test is not yet up, your key will be safely activated and ready for when the game goes live).
