Everyone knows PopCap makes awesome games for all audiences. But did you know that PopCap also cares about the children?

In a press release early this morning, the makers of Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies have begun a charity auction over popular auction site eBay. From now until July 12, they will be selling off 34 different pieces of Popcap related artworks, both originals, as well as specially commissioned pieces. Each week during the auction period will consist of nine different works being put up for bidding, with 100% of proceeds going towards charity.

The auction will be supporting two different groups. SpecialEffect is situated in the United Kingdom, while the Starlight Children’s Foundation is centralized in the United States. Both of these are nonprofit organizations that work to bring assistance to seriously ill and disabled children.

”SpecialEffect has long been a fan of PopCap and their dedicated outreach to helping children in need,” said Dr Mick Donegan, Director and Founder of SpecialEffect. “We’ve used several of their games for the disabled young people we work with, a particular favorite being Peggle, because with our specialist support, it can even be played by young people who are paralyzed, just by moving just their eyes! An auction of this magnitude is sure to not only raise the spirits of those winning the items, but also the spirits of those who'll be helped by the proceeds.”

Information about the auction itself can be found on the eBay page, as well as info about the items currently up for auction.
