Bethesda today announced their upcoming addon for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  Dubbed Hearthfire, this content update will allow players to make a permanent change to Tamriel in the form of a custom home.  You will be able to place, build, and decorate a home of your very own.

Of course this is Skyrim we're talking about, which means that you will need to gather the materials and craft the items that go into your home by yourself.  It's no easy task collecting items for a sword, so no doubt this is going to be a time sink of new proportions.    I'm excited by this notion, the idea that you can make your mark on the world and even better have a nice place to hang your hat.  Buying homes in the world is nice and all, but creating your own is so much more satisfying, particularly since you can now adopt children.  I'm definitely getting a Fable II vibe here.

 Hearthfire, the next official game add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will be available for download for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE on September 4.No word on when it will land for PC. Hit the jump to watch the trailer for yourself.
