Not a lot of gamers today remember Wasteland. A top-down, turn-based, post-apocalyptic, over-hyphenated tactical adventure back from the days when displays maxed out at 16 colors and combat was handled with scrolling descriptive text, Wasteland was a brilliant foray into a bleak future full of radiated scorpions and psycho trike cyborgs.  My friends and I spent countless hours comparing notes on how we spec'ed out our characters and what hidden secrets they found strewn across the unforgiving desert and decrepit shells of once great towns and cities. Wasteland went on to inspire several of gaming's best franchises, including FallOut and Borderlands.

Needless to say, when I saw the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter show up last year, I immediately had to chip in a few bucks so that I could  once again suit up my team of four rangers and take turns picking off mutants with high powered rifles. And now InXile, in all their infinite awesomeness, has finally released a gameplay video teasing us with the in-progress combat system that they've been sinking all that Kickstarter cash into. After watching the video, I have to say it is money well spent - the game looks exactly how I would want a modern take on Wasteland to look, down to the scrolling text box offering up written descriptions of the various combat actions. (My personal favorite from the original: "Arturis unloads his machine gun into the Rad Scorpion, spraying it into a fine red mist...")

Check out the video after the jump (caution: one or two F-bombs) for a first look into the UI, combat system, and dialog system, as well as an intro into the various factions vying for power in the new Wasteland.
