After playing Assassin's Creed 3 I found myself asking if all that work they put into the naval battles was all we'd ever see of in the franchise. It seems Ubisoft was already on the case as they release the box art for the next game in the series, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. It doesn't appear we'll be hanging out with Connor anymore, instead we've traded in our tomahawk for a cutlass. As long as I get dual pistols I'm all in.

The polish put into naval battles was clearly one the high points of Assassin's Creed 3 and if they are building off that experience I can't see that as a bad thing. Personally I'd love to take the the seas and come in to port to take out targets. There is speculation based off the family lineage of Connor that his grand father, Edward Kenway, might be the protagonist for the story. If that's the case it'd be the first time the series has done a prequel story.

With the story mechanics behind the plots of Assassin's Creed it's not a hard pill to swallow though. I'm interested to see how they proceed with this story after the ending events of Assassin's Creed 3, don't worry I'm not going to spoil it. Look for more details on Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag on March 4th.

I've spent countless hours getting my ship thrashed in the navel battles, so seeing that more are on the way triggers mixed feelings. I guess I'll have to go back and practice up for the new voyages!

Yeah, get your practice on! The naval battles are some of the most polished experiences I've had on a console for sea battle. I'm not a huge naval fan, but I still had a blast. Now add the whole pirate life, traveling between ports. Hell if I could jump between ships and take out the captain all assassin style, yes that's what I am talking about.
