When you think of Bethesda Softworks these days, most people associate them with RPGs -- Skyrim, or even The Elder Scrolls Online.  Today they are proving that they want to break that mold and set it on fire and then feed it to some zombie dogs that they then will stab in the face with a bowie knife.  They've announced The Evil Within, a new survival horror game from the brilliant mind of Shinji Mikami, father of all things horror and creator of the Resident Evil series.

Will I play this game?  Heck no.  I hide under the covers in the opposite side of the apartment from a survival horror game (unless you count Minecraft), but I have to give Bethesda props for stepping out of their comfort zone -- and so I step out of my comfort zone to tell you about this game.

"We're incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within ," said Mikami. "My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action."  Yes, that's right, they aren't going to tell us much about the game, but judging from the title artwork, it's going to hurt your brain. It already hurts mine.

The Evil Within is in development for next gen consoles as well as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will be slithering into stores sometime in 2014.

I want to be excited but Bethesda's track record when they stray outside the main dev group isn't great.
