The Fighter director David O. Russell dropped out of the Uncharted movie over creative differences back in May. Uncharted fans were a little miffed about Russell gunning for Mark Wahlberg to play the hero Nathan Drake, and they really didn't like the odd direction he was taking the story in (a Sopranos-esque family of treasure-hunters?). Now director Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless) has taken over, and he's not married to anything, actor or screenplay. “We're beginning from scratch and going back to the video game,” he said in an interview with Crave Online.

Fans are rooting for Geek God Nathan Fillion (of Firefly fame) to play the lead, but the new director isn't promising anything. “We’re literally starting from scratch on the screenplay, and I think that once we finish it, then we’ll go to actors and see who’s available,” Burger said.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm a little sad Russell and Wahlberg won't be heading the film anymore. Oscar-nominated The Fighter was one of the best films last year, and to have the director that did Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees behind the helm? I don't care how much he changed the source material. Think about it, how many Oscar-nominated directors have attempted video game movies? (PS, Uwe Boll was nominated for Razzies, not Oscars.)

And when Mark Wahlberg has a strong director behind him, he's capable of modern classics like Boogie Nights and The Departed. But then there's disasters The Happening and Max Payne. So, uh... let's go Nathan Fillion!

On the other hand, Neil Burger isn't a total amateur. The Illusionist was well-received and Limitless has a respectable 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This project has been upgraded to “We Shall See”.

I am firmly in the Pro-Nathan Fillian camp. Lets hope it happens.

Just as long as he drops Elena off a cliff at least once, I'll be happy.  I'll be even happier if the whiny trollop isn't in the movie at all.
