NetherRealm studios announced today that the invader of dreams, Freddy Kreuger himself, is now available for download for Mortal Kombat 9. And he’s making quite an entrance.

The studio also released the character vignette for the iconic villain, which explains his involvement in the Mortal Kombat tournament; and it surprisingly makes a good amount of sense, in a weird sort of way. Having been pulled from the dream world by Shao Kahn, the mortal Freddy now fights to get himself back into his own realm, and continue to torment the little kiddies on Elm Street. Not only does he get his own character vignette, he also stars in his own commercial, promoting the downloadable content for the game. Both are definitely worth watching.

Freddy will also be joined by two more downloadable classic outfits, as has been the pattern with the previous characters. This time, Sub-Zero’s getting all the loving. Not only will he have access to his Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 outfit, but his Cyber version will also have a brand-new, classic-inspired outfit of his own. And, of course, these outfits are free, whether you download Freddy, or simply get the compatibility patch.

Check out both the character trailer, and the new commercial, below. Sweet dreams.
