Blog Post

This weekend the Game Geex huddled in Rogue Knight Studios HQ (aka my apartment) for the first taping of our podcast.  While it went very well, you'll probably never heard the brilliance that went on, learn exactly how much fail went into the Battlefield 3 beta, and exactly what it means when Arturis says he needs to "choke a bitch."  Unfortunately the recording came out choppy, and so all our hard work was for naught.  Or was it?

Since the podcast was on my mind this weekend, I figured the best place to start would be to ask the community about it.  After all, all of our conversations are two sided.  We put up articles to receive feedback, and it is your feedback that informs and fulfills the conversation. That's the reason we went with the format we did for our Game Geex Modern Warfare 3 Contest -- We want to hear more about you and from you.  I know the readers are out there, the site traffic doesn't lie.  It's just that you're being a little quiet.  We've been a little quiet too, and thus we got to thinking about the podcast.

So Game Geex, what do you look for in a gaming podcast?  What suggestions would you have for a fledgling group starting our on their second maiden voyage into the wonderful world of vocal debate for the purposes of entertainment?  What are your favorite podcasts, and would it be worth having a segment where we post about the podcasts that happened throughout the week.  Yes, I've got podcasts on the brain.  Also, if you have any suggestions for clearing up chopping audio recordings created in Audacity, let us know.  I'd hate to think you're going to miss out on Michael's instructions for Counter Griefing.

Counter Griefing, we need to hear that.

Anyways what I like in a podcast is quality conversation and interesting characters. I dislike overly produced podcasts, I prefer more of a raw almost uncut. Of course completely uncut is insanity and chaotic.  Somewhere in between is good, treating it like it's live keeps it honest and I think in the end that is what I prefer.

Podcasts should feel personal, invested, and honest. Overly produced comes across scripted and boring.

I myself don't listen to podcasts a whole lot, only for games I'm really looking forward too. But what I look for is real commentary on the game itself and on the making of it. A podcast shouldn't be a production but should be in more of a conversation/Q&A type format. The people who listen to podcasts could care less how you present the info, they just want cold hard facts and opinions.

Our podcast was very compelling and it's a shame we won't be sharing it with world. I'll get gaming commentary out there eventually. I specialize in gameplay multiplayer mechanics and analyze that stuff very well. But that's because I have a small history in pro gaming.

He does not have a short history with Dance Central however, which was proven after the podcast taping.  Where was my camera when I needed it?

We could play it, but you can't understand anything that's happening because the recording is messed up.

Hmm, but why are all the recordings and video footage constantly getting corrupted?

I look for tips, tricks, interesting information, and opinions in a gaming podcast. For your second podcast, I suggest that you discuss game of the year and please don't bring it down to MW3 and BF3 because there are far better games coming out such as Assassins Creed Revelations. My least favorite podcasts are of books, my favorite podcasts are ones that review games and share opinions of the games. I have an idea, maybe one of you could discuss the pros of a game and another discuss the cons (alternating) and the other people could interrupt and include anything that they would want to say. Not the greatest of ideas, but hey it is a starting point. Btw, I love the post picture.
