Blog Post

I don't know about you, but I've been stocking up on wheat in Minecraft, and it's not because of my love of cake.  Ever since I heard that animal breeding was coming to my favorite block sim, I have been preparing the way for setting up little sheepy romances and sending cows out on double dates. Well, then I saw this image this morning, and inarticulate sounds of joy escaped me.  Yes, my dear friends, baby animals are coming to Minecraft.  No they won't drop xp (why would you kill a defenseless little lammy?), and they will eventually grow up.

I can't tell you more than that, as much as I would like to.  I assume this has something to do with the animal husbandry system coming to the game, but for now all I can do is stare at that beautiful picture and imagine all the snuggling of piglets that I can look forward to. Elmira will have nothin' on me.

Now if only the spawn instance becomes persistent data. Then we could have our own animal farms going, well sans any pig based governing bodies.

I'm really jazzed about this and I saw that chickens will lay eggs instead of spawning little babies.

Oh and the cute sound I imagined when I read your article is over on this sound board here from Yogscast under "Ahh" or "Ahh2" :)

It is really nice that the Minecraft developers are incorporating animals into the game, this will give the game a less "deadly" vibe. I might check this game out now.

At least now you can just "be" in the world... and collect (I'm assuming collect... with breeding and what not) animals rather than be forced to kill things because of the horrific atmosphere of the night heh. Cute things ftw? Of course.

Animals have always been in the game actually.  This is the first we've heard about baby animals though.  Thus the unbridled joy.

Can't go wrong with baby animals, eh? Now we can say adult animals didn't just come into being magically... in Minecraft.

I played the game a little bit when it was first released, but just the other day I was watching my friend play and it looks like it has improved a lot. This game has a lot of potential with where they're taking it.

Oh minecraft how you sucked the life out of me for an hour... (because the trial ended) its too addicting, this is a good game that I would stay away from because its too dangerous. As Admiral Akbar would say "ITS A TRAP" or "Your brainwaves can't deflect addiction of that magnitude"

Either way this will be a great addition to minecraft.

@ItsAngel

There are a couple mods currently out that allow for additional animals and animal breeding, but this is being built into the core game.
