IndieDB announced their results from their 2011 Game of the Year awards.  Having crowned Terraria as the Indie game of the year, over 12,000 fans voted in their favorite side scrolling survival building game.  I am shocked that you could compare Terraria to the brilliance of Bastion, but as this is a fan-led vote, maybe they didn't have the XBLA points to buy Bastion in the first place.  The lower priced game always wins out in the world of cheap ass gamers. In fact, Terraria is now on sale for an even lower price on Steam, so if you haven't picked it up yet, now's your chance.

The Mod of the Year award goes to Multi Theft Auto.  Not having played it I can only imagine that it must be thrilling to steal multiple cars at once, or that you can auto steal multiple thieves.  Either way it sounds exhilarating.  Read the full list of nominees after the jump.

Wow I am surprised Terraria beat Bastion. Both are great games in their own right but I am still surprised.

The runner ups are all great games from what I've played. Frozen Synapse has truly been a lot of fun to play. Having just recently started up Terraria again I was shocked to see how far that game has come since its release.

I look forward to 2012's indie releases.
