THQ been under a lot of heat lately regarding their future plans. However, they've finally opened up about the state of their various game franchises. For starters, they've finally gotten the idea that absolutely no one likes licensed children titles, not even the target audience, and are completely axing their kid's games department.

The company plans on exiting the area of licensed kids titles, in favor of a stronger focus on their core franchises and digital revenues. While they will continue to sell titles that they've released in the past, THQ is currently working on selling all of their kids licenses to anyone that's willing to take over the unsavory duty of making very poorly done Scooby Doo games.

“THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises,” said CEO Brian Farrell in a press release. “The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title. Additionally, our robust digital content offerings for this game have resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in our history.”

Along with their support of the Saints Row games, THQ also has a healthy amount of other titles in the works, such as the upcoming Darksiders II, and the Warhammer 40k MMO that's reportedly in the works. They also plan on continuing to work with external developers to create new franchises in the future. The company plans to reveal more of their plans on this new steamlined approach on its third quarter conference call, scheduled for February 2.

Probably a smart move on their part. I highly doubt anyone is going to be upset over not seeing a new Spongebob game coming from them.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? GFTO!

I'm glad they are focusing on things like Darksiders, because honestly that's what I want out of them. More Darksiders and someday a 4 player coop Darksiders with a side of dark... siders.
