It’s official! Sony has just announced the next God of War game, God of War: Ascension will be headed to the PS3. The announcement was made via trailer and based on its contents, the game seems to be a prequel to the events of the trilogy, speaking of times before Kratos was known as “The Ghost of Sparta.”

No details on the game have been unveiled nor is there an expected release date. Stay tuned for more news on God of War: Ascension! Click the jumper to see the reveal trailer.

I am surprised by this announcement, considering they are working on the Orbis.  I guess it's a sign that the next console is a ways out.

It's God of War that makes me want to get a Playstation 3. I'm hyped for this game but I do wish it was a sequel rather than a prequel.

Well, no one is really sure about what's going to happen in this next game. But based off the trailer alone (which is really all we have), it does seem to be a prequel. I think they want to save God of War 4(the direct sequel) for the PS4 "Orbis."

I wish I had a PS3 to play God of War 3, played the first 2, so i am missing the last bit of the story to finish it off for me.

I also wish it to be a sequel rather than another prequel, because from the story point of view, it looks like they repeated everything that we already knew, and the first God of War already explained why Kratos wanted Ares in the first place, so this is just a waste of money to create a prequel, but much more feasible when it comes to engendering a sequel, since the GOW 3 left on quite the cliffhanger after Kratos screwed up the world for his selfish revenge.
