There's something unusual happening over at Trion Worlds.  Their new MMO, Defiance, isn't you're run of the mill, post-apocolyptic monster fest.  Nope, in this case, the game is timed to coincide with a TV show, one that will star characters you will meet within the game.

Watching this trailer I'm reminded of Matrix Online oddly enough, particularly when they went and offed Morpheus in one of their major patches.  Let's hope they don't pull any jump the shark moves with Defiance.  For the moment I'm intrigued with the idea of progressing major story in a TV series alongside an open persistent world game.  It could be a good time.

Defiance will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 (if you can believe it) April 2013.
