I am saddened to say that Martin O'Donnell, the composer behind the epic music of the Halo franchise, has had his contract officially terminated by Bungie after more than a decade with the company.
Martin O'Donnell
@MartyTheElderI'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.
There's no elaboration from O'Donnell other than this tweet about his termination but Bungie released a statement that contradicted the man's twitter announcement stating it was an amicable split.
"For more than a decade, Marty O'Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans.
Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavours."
-Bungie
Martin O'Donnell has been with Bungie since before it was taken in Microsoft. The composer was responsible for pretty much every piece of music found in the Halo franchise, which to this day is still regarded as the franchise with one of the best musical pieces in gaming. O'Donnell was also working on future pieces in Bungie's upcoming game, Destiny.
It's a sad day for me because it's not uncommon for me to tune in to a Halo song on my ipod every once in awhile since the music was just so epic, even without the visual aid of the game itself to enhance the feeling. I wish O'Donnell the best of luck and am certain any company who is willing to snatch up this musical genius up would be lucky to have him *cough* EA *cough* Star Wars *cough* Mass Effect *cough*.
