VGA 2011 held quite a few world premieres, but as the Joker accepted his award for “Character of the Year”, was he doing a reveal of his own? The psychotic clown held up a script for “Batman: Arkham World” and threw it away, concluding his speech with a very eerie “Whoops! Spoilerrr…”
Where the series could be headed is a mystery. After all, the Batman himself is a mystery. With a long line of history, from classic to “forever”, they have a ton of options to choose from. Regardless, Mark Hamill announced he will be retiring as the Joker and throwing away the script might have represented that fact. On another note, why would he say it’s a spoiler?
Based on the ending of Arkham City, perhaps it was just a spoiler suggesting the Joker will be in the next installment as well. For it to make sense, the next game could be a prequel to Arkham Asylum. Perhaps we’ll get a taste of what happened before the super villains were thrown into the mega prison, and have more exploration of the actual city of Gotham.
It could all be a joke. After all, it was the Joker who made the announcement. Still, I don’t have any doubts they’re creating another installment of the Arkham games, or at the very least, another Batman title, since Arkham City was well-received. I hope it was a secret world premiere but only time will tell. I also hope “Arkham World” is just a project codename because it sounds silly. What do you guys think?
