Earlier this week, on the 8th of February, 2012, we lost a great talent with the passing of Adam Adamowics. Adam was a concept artist for Bethesda Softworks, and the visual mastermind behind Fallout 3. While you may not have heard of him, I’m sure many of you will at least be familiar with his work, most noticeably his influence on Fallout 3, as well as his contributions to Skyrim.

Fallout 3 was a big deal, and the quality and amount of work Adam had put into the game shows. It is just astonishing, from designing the vast worlds, to the surreal weapons, armour and creatures. The 50s style that you see everywhere was a result of intensive research, not only the all-important items that you pick up, but even things as subtle as computers, vending machines, and furniture all stayed true to the flair of the cold war era.
 
Each weapon you use has such a diverse characteristic about it, and the level of detail that goes into just one object is so deep. Adam stated that he would try to “make things look like it would work” and it’s very evident when you reload a weapon, that a lot of time was spent just designing the way it would be used. There are over 40 projectile weapons in Fallout 3, so that just scratches the surface as to how much Adam has contributed to the game. Take a second to think about your favorite2 things about Fallout 3.. Personally I liked to sport Vengeance, the unique Gatling laser. The idea of this alone gives high expectations, and Adam sure as hell came through on making one bad-ass death machine.
 

If you had a fond memory of post-apocalyptic D.C, Adam Adamowicz most definitely had a part creating it. His impact on the gaming industry, and his legacy will always be remembered, he will be sorely missed.

This really hit a note with me. As an artist, Adam's work on Fallout 3 heavily influenced me, and is still a driving inspiration behind a lot of my own concepts and designs. Him, along with his talents will be greatly missed. R.I.P.
