Seeing a game developer tweet "Patience is a virtue" is never a good sign. Sure enough, Ignition Games has delayed the American release of their stunningly beautiful game El Shaddai from next Tuesday until August 16th. According to Destructoid, the cause of this is "unforeseen logical issues".
The game was released in Japan in late April to incredibly positive reviews. Critics applauded the artsiness of El Shaddai and I can see why. The screenshots and videos can only be described as incredibly elegant.
El Shaddai's action/platforming gameplay relies on rhythmically pressing the attack button in order to create combos. These combos make the character's attacks increasingly cinematic. And, while I'm not a huge fan of games as quicktime events or cut-scenes, there is something intriguing about a built-in mechanic that allows you to perform such dashing maneuvers.
So, while I'm sad I won't get my overly anxious (and sweaty) hands on El Shaddai this upcoming week, I'm still looking forward to beating the living daylights out of things as an angel. And besides, they're right, patience is a virtue. That doesn't mean that I won't be squirming in my seat in anticipation though.
