Anyone with a working brain is pretty much aware of PETA, or People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, and their batsh*t crazy members. Sadly, not even beloved plumber Mario is safe from their psychotic ravings.
Their latest stunt targets the recently released Super Mario 3D Land, specifically, the return of the popular Tanooki Suit powerup. Apparently, one of the members got that funny voice in their head again, telling them that Mario actually skins wild tanuki to wear the suit, and that it brings the idea that wearing fur suits is okay. As a result, we have the parody game Super Tanooki Skin 2D.
The description of the game reads as such: “Tanooki may be just a ‘suit’ in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur. Play Super Tanooki Skin 2D and help Tanooki reclaim his fur!”
Yeah, it’s just as crazy as it sounds. The game puts you in control of a skinless tanuki as you chase Mario through a crudely designed, randomized stage that looks like something out of H.P. Lovecraft to get your skin back. It’s rather poorly designed, and does a better job producing nightmare fuel rather than teaching anyone about the horrors of fur coats.
The page also has a link where you can pledge to be “fur-free,” as well as a very graphic video showing the beating and killing of actual tanuki for their skins. The video, at the very least, once again proves that their only real strategies are shock value, and to be as blatantly obnoxious as possible. Oh, and taking lots of crazy pills, along with a swig of the special Kool-Aid.
Ignoring these kind of people doesn’t really seem to do the trick, unfortunately, as it just seems to make them go stronger. Only advice I can provide is to at least practice common sense, so as to avoid getting trapped by their insanity.
Shouldn't PETA have been protesting when he wore a honeybee suit first? This seems like maligned priorities. If the organization truly cared about animals that much, it wouldn't protect just the cuddly-looking ones. I don't know why I'm trying to logic-out the reasoning here from a group who is notoriously illogical, but these are the people who got mad when Obama killed a fly. Maybe they just phase in and out of culture in time to see things like this? Additionally, I am killing many an animal in Skyrim and wearing their pelts. No comment, PETA?
