According to a survey done by Entertainment Software Association, the average age of a gamer in 2012 is 30 years old. Quite interesting actually considering a lot of players claim that today's games are being played by immature 9 year olds. Though, the number is down from 2011's survey, which resulted in an average gamer age of 37. There's quite a big reason for that actually since this year's survey was rather general, in that those who participated were merely asked if they "played computer or video games." This means the results included gamers who only played ipod, facebook, and android titles as well.
You know, now that I think about it, most of my gamer friends aside from those i've befriended from school are all above the age of 30 and every single one of them are die-hard gamers. So I guess the data, to me, is fairly accurate. Though, an argument made by several gamers who looked into the survey argued that "those who play only Farmville aren't "gamers." I find that if that's what they enjoy playing, then that's just the kind of gamer they are.
So what do you think? Does increasing the generalization of what defines a gamer make this survey more or less accurate? For more details, click the jumper. If you want to see the full result of the survey, click here.
