Gaming retail chain Gamestop has gotten themselves into hot water once again with their latest act of dumbf*ckery, after they sent out notices to customers that preodered The Last Guardian that the title was canceled.
Sony, however, was quick to jump in to clear the air, giving a notice that the game is still in production, despite the fact that it's essentially in development Hell at this point, and that there is no clear release date set at this time. The game is supposed to be the third title in Team Ico's library, who was also responsible for the title Ico itself, as well as Shadow of the Colossus.
Gamestop provided a statement later explaining their actions, saying that they removed the game from their systems, and will put it back in when it gets a solid release window.
"The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."
While it can understandable as to why they took the game off of their registry, the way they went about doing so is probably one of the dumbest methods one can think of. Of course, this isn't nearly as big of a goof as the OnLive controversy they had to contend with earlier this year, but after something like that, it's really more of a "of course they would do this," at this point.
