A season of quality HD remakes is soon to be upon us. With announcement, after announcement, after announcement, we are soon going to be welcomed by a host of old favorites.

There is quite a hefty list, but some of the games I’m really looking forward to are the two games in the Ico Collection, (Ico and Shadow of the Colossus), which are coming out late this year, and the Kojima remake of two of its most popular series, Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders. All these titles I have had fond memories with, and am looking forward to replaying them in high-definition. Stepping aside from Sony classics, however, I’m also quite keen to get my hands on the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. Although the games are more of a face lift then a full HD remake, I started my adventures with ol’ Master Chief in Halo 3.

Now, if this was ever an excuse for other game publishers to refresh old ideas for a quick profit, then by all means, go right ahead! I’m all for development, but I think revamping past titles is a great idea. I’ve seen plenty of Square-Enix remakes on the DS, but I would love to see publishers bring that beauty to be big screen in 1080p. I jump on the bandwagon when I say I would love to see a Final Fantasy VII remake, but one game which I think would fit perfectly into this category is a little PS title called Azure Dreams. Playstation 2 games seem to be an easier choice in these HD conversions, but I believe that if more effort was brought into bringing great classic games on to modern consoles, then it would serve as not only reviving great gaming experiences, but it will introduce these older games to younger gamers who only see these old games on eBay with an estounding nostalgia tax.

Not all of us own a PSPs either, and Sony's plans to release Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is also PS3 HD remake I believe is a great choice. At the moment it is slated for an August Japan release, and it is a no brainer that this game will be a hit. Not everyone owns a PSP, and this deal will not just be limited to Monster Hunter either. Sony are planning to bring more PSP titles to the PS3 in full HD, rightfully dubbed 'PSP Remasters'. This just shows that there is a push in the gaming industry to bring games into wider audiences. These projects attend to the needs of nostalgic gamers, newer gamers, and gamers who just can't fork out the money for multiple consoles.

I'd glad to see them bringing all these older titles back with updated visuals. Maybe someone will get on Eternal Darkness? Or finish that series!?!
