Today we got a first look at the alpha gameplay footage of Hairbrained Schemes' Shadowrun Returns. It’s great to get a view into all the hard work this studio has been putting into a game many of us have been dying to get your hands on. Not only do we get a good look at the conversation system they take us on a mission, spoiler free, so we can see the combat first hand.
I’m excited to see systems in play and a return to traditional turn based combat. Over the years the heavy lean on real time game play versus turn based has at times become more of a because we can mentality. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. There is just something rewarding about a good round of turn based when all your strategies come out to play. Taking a look at the rigger system gets me excited, but it’s limited to just he drone on hand.
Shadowrun first launched 1989 bringing the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy into a gritty cyberpunk pen and paper setting. Last year Hairbrained Schemes launched a very successful Kickstarter, bringing much the much loved style of the previous Shadowrun games on the SNES and Sega Genesis. Shadowrun Returns launches summer 2013.
