Blog Post

It's raining here at Rogue Knight Studios, and the whole world seems wrapped in a wet, grey blanket.  It's days like these that I just want to curl up on the couch with the dogs and a book or a game and do nothing until the weather clears.

So I got to thinking about rain in video games, and thought it only appropriate that I list out those games that feature this most liquid of precipitation. What follows is a short list of games about rain.  If you know any others, feel free to share them.  You won't rain on my parade at all (see what I did there?).

Hit the jump to see our list of the top five rain games.

5. From Dust

In this little environmental puzzler rain is less a feature and more a villain.  Just when you think you're going to be able to keep all your villagers safe, down comes the rain to wash away all your hard work.

4. Legacy of Kain

Poor Kain.  Who knew vampires had it so hard?  In this action title Kain takes damage whenever he's in the rain since he can't touch pure water.

3. Hydrophobia

Released in 2010, this was the first action game to feature a purpose-built fluid dynamics engine.  Just looking at the screenshot makes my fingers go all pruny.

2. Silent Hill: Downpour

Konami's next Silent Hill title, I haven't played this game yet, but I imagine since rain is referenced in the title Murphy Pendleton will have to drag his ex-con butt through at least one rainstorm.

1. Heavy Rain

Obviously, the number one spot goes to the game that's actually named after rain.  Playing this game actually simulates the doldrums that rain elicits. I'm not sure that's a good thing.
