Sony reveals that they will only allow one Playstation Network ID per device. Doesn’t seem like too much of a big deal, but it makes it so other people you intend to share the device with-- siblings, roommates, etc. are not allowed to have their own account. Because of this, it also makes it impossible to play virtual downloads of games from other regions without reformatting the system and deleting all your files.

Really, all of this is just a nuisance. You can’t take advantage of Sony’s region-specific deals or download DLC outside your own region. It’s sort of a way to region-lock the device, without the device actually being region-locked. Of course, all of this is done with some reasoning. It limits virtual piracy, to some extent, by limiting the market of virtual downloads. I definitely am against the piracy of video games, but at the cost of limiting paying customers?

I can’t say this is a smart move, as it could hurt virtual sales. However, for some, it’s not too big of a deal. What do you guys think?

This is a bad move on Sony's part, especially since it will only hurt legitimate customers AND those who lack the expertise to hack their units; which if it's anything like the PSP will be easy as pie. Piracy is certainly a huge problem, but DRM only hurts paying customers and this sort of locked down system is an even larger insult to those who give Sony their hard earned pay.

Bowler Hat Guy: What's going on? Why aren't you seizing the boy?
T-Rex: I have a big head and little arms. I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through.

Stupid seems to be synonymous with Sony these days.  It's as if the execs all gathered in a room and each of them wrote an idea down on a piece of paper on how best to screw themselves out of goodwill.  The first was "PlayStation Plus," then "only give out games everyone already has for the PSN blackout" and "limit game sharing on the PS3 and Vita" and now this.  Really?  I love your hardware, but Sony is making it very hard for me to want to choose to buy games on their console.  Even Kevin Butler's enthusiasm may not be awesome enough to counter this in the court of public opinion.
