Microsoft registered quite a few domains today. Some make sense while others have me puzzled. The following domains were registered:
- Xbox8.com
- Xbox8.org
- XboxliveTV.com
- XboxTablet.com
- Xboxcompanion.com
I can definitely see Xbox Tablet being a domain. But Xbox 8? Could that be the name of their next console, Project Durango? Microsoft hasn’t registered “Xbox” plus a number before so “8” was very deliberate. Perhaps they plan to match the next console with their upcoming “Windows 8” operating system. Aside from that, Xbox Companion also interests me. Maybe they’ll make a R.O.B. equivalent for the next Xbox.
Could these registered domains just be Microsoft trying to secure their rights? Or will we soon be calling the next console Xbox 8? Guess we’ll find out when we find out.
