Update: Trion just announced this morning that Defiance will be making landfall April 2, 2013. I guess that's so there's no confusion about April Fool's jokes. They also released a new "Join the Fight" trailer, which I've included after the jump.

Science Fiction fans rejoice: The chance to play the first hybrid MMO begins with a beta running between February 8th and 10th. Defiance is a hybrid project, in that it is not only a futuristic sci-fi shooter MMO set in a post-apocolyptic future time where Earth has been invaded -- it's also a television show. This is the first time something like this has been attempted. Sure, you had Morpheus die in The Matrix Online, but that was after the movies ended, and the game sucked so it doesn't count.
If you're at all interested in this game (and you should be), head on over to their site and sign up for the beta. If you already played RIFT or End of Nations, you can sign up using your Trion account. Hit the jump to check out screens from the game.
This week Trion also launched the Ark Hunter Rewards program for gamers looking to get a head start to their career as an Ark Hunter in Defiance. Numerous six digit alpha/numeric codes have been scattered throughout various game assets released to the public. These codes can be collected and redeemed to unlock 15 different levels of rewards ranging from increased weapon skills to special in-game titles and early access to a vehicle. Participants are encouraged to sign up at http://defiance.com/arkhunter to take part and start entering codes they’ve found. All rewards will be available at game launch.
Defiance is set to drop April 2, 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.
