For some time Richard Garriot has been talking about a spiritual successor to the Ultima series and a lot of hints appear that something big may be looming on the horizon. One such hint is the website Lord British Presents that popped up recently. There you're greeted with a nice countdown that ends a little over 4 days from now. There is a lot of speculation floating around about what it could be, knowing that EA still holds the rights to the Ultimate series there are still many fans hoping that Garriot has regained the rights to this beloved franchise.

If we take a moment and approach it like conspiracy nuts, there are a few things that jump out. Look at that font, isn't that the Ultima font? What is Garriot teasing us with. The header image is from a tweet he posted last week:

Taking a look at that evokes a sense of Ultima style as well. Less then a month ago Garriot asked via his Google+ page the following:

Inquiring minds want to know... What were your favorite in box add ins to Origin Games? Cloth maps, coins, stones, radiation detectors, tool kits? Something else?

Now excuse me while I geek out, there is nothing I'd like better for an rpg fix than an old school Garriot RPG with a box full of goodies. I still have some of my cloth maps and I will treasure them always. While I can't help but be apprehensive due to his past track record since leaving Origin and Electronic Arts behind, I'll keep my eyes fixed on the site and inbox for the announcement to come. I guess you could call me nostalgic.
