Today Cyanide released some new screenshots for their upcoming RPG Game of Thrones.  We get a chance to see the battle in the game up close and personal, and if you squint you can almost feel the blood spatter.  

This isn't the first Game of Thrones title, but it is the first RPG release that is set inside the timeline of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series.  In this game you play as Mors, a sworn brother of the Night's Watch, and Alester, a discraced Red Priest looking for redemption.  The story itself picks up just as Jon Arron dies, so you get the opportunity to interact with the periphery of all the major events in the books.  

What's interesting is that the characters, especially the famous ones, are modeled after the actors in the television series, so in a way this is less a game based on the books, and more a game based on the tv series based on the books.  Phew, that gets my head spinning.

Game of Thrones will be released sometime in Q2 2012 for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
