Elitist PC gamers are probably going to have a lot more to whine and bitch about if Blizzard’s experimentations with Diablo III end up working out for them.

They’ve lately been messing with controller functionality for the game to see how it shapes up compared to the classic keyboard + mouse configuration. The result, possibly to the dismay of those in fear of losing another title to those dastardly consoles, is looking to be fairly positive.

“One of the reasons why we’re exploring the idea of a console version of Diablo 3 because we feel that the controls and the style of the game lend itself to a console,” said game director Jay Wilson. “With some of our early experiments in putting a direct control scheme into the game via a 360-like analogue controller, I’ve been ‘Oh this feels even better, with direct control…’”

However, this doesn’t mean that Diablo III is suddenly going to be a console only venture. While you’ll still be able to use the original keyboard + mouse control scheme at launch, this does mean that a console release is falling more into the realm of possibility. If that does occur, then Blizzard guarantees that the PC version will have gamepad support added in at the same time. Just don’t get your panties in a bunch, PC gamers.

Having played a little of the game already, I can say that it's one of those titles that would probably benefit greatly from a controller option.  Plus I would finally have a reason to use that Limited Edition FFXIV controller they sent me.
