Who says those Hollywood types weren't smart? Lionsgate just announced today that Dead Island will make a trip from trailer to video game to big screen. Producers Sean Daniel (Tombstone!) and Stefan Sonnenfeld (in the editorial department of every movie made in the past five years!) are attached so far.

Now for the smart part. The movie will be primarily based on the award-winning trailer, and that's a very, very good thing. Playing through Dead Island recently, the story was so rotten I wanted to kill my own character. But since they're adapting one of the best trailers ever made (with “its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling”), we may get something decent. But maybe don't hold your breath.
