Book nerds rejoice, literature's first detective novel, Wilkie Collins' The Moonstone, has been adapted into an iOS game thanks to Square Enix and Freeze Tag, Inc. Writing this now sitting in an office with a special edition copy of the novel sitting behind me on the bookshelf I am just giddy at the prospect of seeing this classic take life for a whole new generation of gamers. While only mildly action packed, The Moonstone is perfect for the hidden object game format, since Victorian England was so much about hiding things in general.
“The Victorian Mysteries series of games have been a smash hit with PC and Mac gamers,” said Freeze Tag CEO Craig Holland, “so we’re excited to be working with an international publisher like Square Enix on the global launch to bring this classic detective tale to a mobile audience.”
Entitled Victorian Mysteries: The Moonstone, the game casts you in the role of Detective Guff, and tasks you with tracking down the mystery of what happened to the mysterious Moonstone. Whether or not they will delve into the origins of the artifact and its affect on its owners remains to be seen. The game is available now in the iTunes App Store.
