Think that the console version of Minecraft is selling the fastest? Think again. Mojang's peeps tweeted (see what I did there?) today that while Minecraft Xbox 360 has sold 4.5 million copies, the version of the game designed for iOS and Android, dubbed Minecraft Pocket Edition, has sold 5 million copies. Now that's a lot of blocks.
There are a couple of reasons I can see that the mobile version of the game would sell better than the console. For one it's cheaper; Minecraft Pocket Edition sells for $6.99, while it's console brother sports a $20.00 price tag. Additionally, just about everyone has a smart phone these days, while only a select segment of the population (hardcore gamers) own a 360.
Personally I've never even considered buying the Pocket Edition, there's just something unnerving about the idea of being attacked by zombies as I cross the street on my way to Starbucks. Still, perhaps I'm missing out here. What do you think? Which version of the game would you/did you buy?
Hi, my name is Martin and I'm a minecraft addict.
I own 4 copies for the pc, 1 for xbox and 1 for android. If they could have done a cross platform thing I think I'd be screwed. For now it's like walking around with a zen garden in my pocket. Well if your zen garden has monsters in the dark places.
Hi Martin....*clap clap* I actually went to bed thinking of Minecraft, and I haven't had the chance to play in months. I was thinking about my root cellar in that first castle I built. I bet the mushrooms are crazy overgrown by now.
