We all know about the disastrous launch of Final Fantasy XIV and I'm sure most of us have seen A Realm Reborn's "End of an Era" trailer which launched in late-November of last year. What most of you don't know was that the trailer was the true ending to FFXIV and was revealed to the players of 1.0 prior to its global launch.
The bittersweet trailer originally went live the moment the servers went down as players gathered with their linkshells, friends, and guildmates on November 11th, 2012 to watch the final moments of the game and the inevitability of Dalamud plummeting down and annihilating Eorzea as they knew it. The creators of the game weren't kidding when they said their favorite part of FFXIV 1.0 was "blowing it up in a blaze of glory." I mean, killing off your game by crashing a moon -- which holds a dragon the size of a city-state inside of it might I add -- onto the surface of your creation? Genius... Deathwing doesn't have anything on Bahamut here.
Here's a video created by youtuber, PwerlvlAmy, which manages to show the horror of doom rain down on her land. Check it out below. I think if a game had to go, it has to be done like this:

Okay I'm officially sad that I missed this event in game. Square Enix has just won back a player.
It's amazing how Square Enix can convey a Final Fantasy story with no dialogue. That ending with the arch mage smiling since he managed to save the next generation almost made me tear up.
